HAZARDOUS WASTES, including but not limited to:
Letter from the Local Landfill – Effective May 5, 2023
Absolutely NO METAL is to be brought to the San Luis Valley Landfill. One metal item hauled to the landfill and not disposed of in the metal bins (not beside the bin), and disposed of at the working face. (such as a bike or bar-b-que grill, etc.) will be charged a metals fee which currently is $150 per offense and each additional instance is an additional $25 that will be added to the $150 fee.
~and~
Absolutely NO ELECTRONICS – this includes TV’s, Computers, Printers, Monitors, etc. All electronic items must be taken from the landfill by the hauler and properly disposed of at a recycling center.
~and~
ALL TIRES brought to the landfill will be re-loaded by the hauler and disposed of in the Waste Tire area of the landfill.
The San Luis Valley Regional Solid Waste Authority is not permitted by the State of Colorado to accept metal, electronics, paint, hazardous wastes.
Unfortunately, we have tried to work with the haulers in these matters and have not been successful. These items are a hazard to our equipment and our employees and will no longer be tolerated. A list of unacceptable materials can be found on our website slvlandfill.com. Please familiarize yourself and your customers with the regulations we are required to enforce.
If you have metal items, please keep them separated from the other trash. Please keep the metal at the front, rear, or easily accessible on the top of the trash. If our drivers can easily access tires, or metal, they can remove the items and set them in the available bins and locations.
Please let our drivers know that you have separated the metal and where it is located in your roll off.
Unfortunately, if your roll off contains any hidden, unacceptable, material, your invoice will reflect the additonal fees that RMS is charged by the landfill.
If you need a separate roll off for metal items, we can send a small roll off for those items as well.
PLEASE KEEP TIRES AND METAL SEPARATED FROM OTHER TRASH. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR TIRES AND METALS!
